How does divorce impact children? What are the long-term effects of divorce?
Do you think children of divorce have a disadvantage when compared to children from a traditional, two-parent home?
Why or why not?
Divorce impact children in many ways, be it psychologically, emotionally, socially. SeperatioS of parents in itself proves to be a traumatizing experience. Children tend to become confused about relationships and attachments, they start thinking that if their parents can turn away from each other, they might even turn away from them also. In most cases it has been found that most children end up believing that they are the reasons fro their parents separation which leaves them with a sense of guild and emotional unstable state. Other impacts are that children often have to live with one parent so they grow less attached to their other parent. Moving and shiftigs to different place with one parent can also leave them with too much change to adjust to. These impacts in the long term can result in anxiety and depression. Difficulty forming a healthy relationship by the children of divorced because of this negative experience can be a long term impact of divorce.
Yes I think children of divorce have a disadvantage when compared to children from a traditional, two parent home because, two parents can set a role model for them the relationship between them allow children to learn forming healthy relationship in their future which children of divorce may struggle with.
