Republic party:- The Republic party is one of the two political parties of U.S which was founded by anti slavery activists, by the former members of Free Soil party, Former members of Whig party and modernisers in 1854 in the Northern states of the country. It is the most dominant political party of the U.S from where most of the American presidents hold the administration power. The other opponent party of this political party is Democratic party. This party is called as Grand Old Party where Jafferson and Madison are regarded as the founding father of the party. The present president of the country is also from this party.

The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 which opened its territory for slavery led the anti slavery activists from different field to convene a meet where the Republican name was suggested for a new political party which was completely in favour of removing slavery from the country. Gradually it brought all the northern states under its political arena and in 1860, Abraham Lincolin became the first president of the country fom this party. The initial philosophy of the party was to erradicate slavery completely from the country by the slogan " free labour, free land, free man" which referred to the oposition of slave labour, tyranny by the slave owners who occupied all the productive lands leaving the barren lands to the small farmers and freedom of slaves as human beings.

The Republican party has been in the political line over the last 160 years changing its ideologies from time to time as demanded by the country's situation. The party has become conservative at present which tries to safeguard the American tradition based on Jeudo-christian ethics removing threats from socialism, authoriatarianism and moral relativism. Free market capitalism, free trade, indivisualism, building strong national defence and military power to protect the country from internal and external enemies, reducing tax burden from its citizens, implementing more welfare schemes for the public etc are given utmost priority by the party at present. The party has come a long way from classical liberal ideology during its intial years to conservative ideology at present.

Party affiliation matters little now-a- days as people select their candidates based on his personality, leadership quality, charisma and on his ability and strength to run a country efficiently where the party has little power to impress their voters. But as the selected candidates represent some particular party, it is necessary for us to know the ideologies of political parties so that the country could be changed in a positive way.
