If we recognize that our perceptions are always limited, what can we do to improve our perception making? How can we make our perceptions less limited?

Solutions

Expert Solution

  • One of the ways in which we can make our perceptions less limiting is sharing our perceptions with other people about a situation or an object. If we share our perceptions about things with other people it could help in reducing perceptual errors in a given situation.
  • Another strategy is to have an accurate self perception. One needs to be aware of their own prejudices, values and beliefs in order to perceive others accurately. We need to recognize our won strengths and weaknesses to have less perceptual distortions and accurate perceptions about ourselves leading to better perceiving others.
  • Also through socialization and interacting with others, would make our perceptions less limiting since this would help to increase our knowledge and also overcome our prejudices, since we would be able to understand another's culture from their perspective and respect their opinions and appreciate as well learn from them. This would help to broaden our perspective and accomodate others better.
