Innate immunity
What are some characteristics of innate immunity?
describe the different components of the innaté immune response.
Lymphatic system
What are the functions and components of the lymphatic system?
What role does it play in protection from pathogens?
1. Characteristics of innate immunity:
* It is the initial most immune response which gives non specific and rapid action against invading pathogen.
* Innate immunity has considered to have no immune memory.
* Cells like monocytes ans macrophages are capable of building a non specific memory which results in either better or worse responses to secondary infections as a result of epigenetic changes.
2. Components of innate immunity:
* It includes:
a. Physical epithelial barriers.
b. Phagocytic leukocytes.
c. Dendritic cells.
d. Circulating plasma proteins.
e. Natural killer cells, which are special type of lymphocytes.
3. Lymphatic system:
Functions:
* It transports white blood cells to and from the lymphatic nodes into the bones.
* It is responsible for removal of the interstitial fluid from tissues.
* It transports and absorbs fats and fatty acids as chyle from the digestive system.
Components:
The components of lymphatic system are of 5 types:
a. Vessels
b. Nodes
c. Tonsils
d. Thymus
e. Spleen
4. The lymphatic system serves as a drainage network and the role in the immunity is, it helps protect the body against infection by producing red blood cells which are called lymphocytes and there by they help to get rid of disease causing micro organisms in body.
