What is a batch reactor

What is a batch reactor

Solutions

Expert Solution

batch reactor is one of the simplest type in the reactors while for the manufacturing of chemicals. A simplest type of tank which has an agitator to mix the raw materials properly and also has an heating element. Solid and liquids or both can be used as raw materials. A vent in the top cover is used to escape the gases. Discharge is used at the bottom of the reactor outlets.

Batch reactor is used for longer time periods usually in days, therefore the conversion rate is higher than other reactors.

It is used for small scale production rate.

Easy maintenance and cleaning is easy.

The disadvantages of batch reactor onne product is produced from the given period of time and another product at another time.

Example - Fermenter is a batch reactor

The balanced reaction

Input - output + rate of production = accumulation

Without input and output flow rate

FA0 =0 = FA

rA = rate of reaction

The design equation for batch reactor is

2.a. You are running a batch reactor. Each batch takes about four hours to run. You measure the purity of the batch four times in the last hour to ensure that it has stabilized. You want to monitor the results using an X-R chart. The data you have collected for the first 10 batches are given the table below.
