Bacteriophages cannot infect mammalian cells. The characteristic feature of Bacteriophages is their specificity of action i.e. their ability to kill only the pathogen they recognise. They replicate only in the target bacterium. They remain in the body for prolonged peroids. Hence, the correct option is (4). Experiments have been conducted which showed positive results. Seven effective phages(one siphovirus and six myoviruses) when given in combinations higher Clostridium difficile clearence rates and lower levels of regrowth were observed.
