Phosphorus mineral is has various biologically important
functions in humans as well as plants. Moreover it is a vital
component of organs and biomolecules.
It's functions and roles are described below:
- It is involved in cellular growth and tissue repair.
- In humans it is the second most abundant mineral after calcium.
It is found in teeth and bones. Phosphorous is involved in bone and
teeth repair and strengthening, stimulates nerve function and
muscle contraction.
- In both plants and animals phosphorous is present in the form
of phosphates. The energy currency of the cells and tissues is ATP(
adenosine triphosphate). Moreover phosphorous is a component of
DNA( genetic material carrying information) and RNA(involved in
protein synthesis)
- In plants phosphorous stimulates root development and initiates
flower and seed formation.
