1 First and foremost explain the client to take the medication as prescribed by the doctor,like the correct dose.Tell him/her not to take overdose.Also tell the patient that the action of the medicine will start after few weeks of initiation of the medicine and tell him/her not to stop the medication in few days by sayinf it doesnot have an effect.Also tell them that allopurinol is not a pain reliever .

2 Tell thge patient to take the drug only after the meals to avoid the stomach disturbances

3 Advice the patient to take allopurinol with plenty of water.This is important to avoid the formation of renal stones.

4. Tell the patient if he missed any dose take it as soon as possible when he/she remember or if it is the time to take the next dose then skip the missed one dont take two doses together.
