Expert Solution

Public health insurance option or public insurance option or public option it is a proposal to create a government run health insurance agency that would compete with other private health insurance companies with in the united states, it is an alternative health insurance plan offered by the government, and it is single federal insurances plan the benefits of public option is that there will be increase coverage while lowering thecosts for consumers and would be easier to implement, because the administrative and billing costs would decrease significantly because governmemt would be able to bargain more aggressively with drugmakers, medical device, manufactures, hospitals and others so that the enrolled persons in public option no need to worry about turning a profit like private plans do, and the premiums for the public option plan would be at least 7 to 8 percent less expensive than private plans offered in the market , this plan would benefit several groups mainly those who cannot alrwady take advantage of a employer sponsored plan in this system health insurance is voluntary so those who purchase it are more likely to be the ones who use it most and this plan has lower premium and no profit margin or tax liability and portability and cons are that private insurance companies would go of business, and lower payments to providers and single payer system might emerge, the pros clearly outweighed the cons so the points against the public options are week so public option plan is more concentrated health insuers.
