1, Food- Fermented foods are healthy and beneficial that they increase the normal flora- the gut microbiome and aid in digestion. they also increase the immunity. The fermented foods such as curd, yoghurt, tempeh, saurkraut, idly, cheese, kefir, bakery products such as bread and so many require skills to prepare it correctly. they are tasty as well as healthy. baking is impossible without the yeast- Saccharomyces cerevisea. lactic acid bacteria found in probiotic food such as curd, yoghurt, etc helps in increasing the gut microbiome.

2, Genetic engineering- the plasmids are the vectors very important for genetic engineering. Human insulin and human growth hormone were produced by recombinant DNA technology performed in bacteria.

3Industries-, In the Production of vitamins, chemicals, dietary supplements, biofertilizers, bioinsecticides microbes play an important role.

4, Bioremediation- Controlling the environmental pollution. For ex- oil spills cleared by Pseudomonas putida. Microbes are also used to degrade plastics and other non bio degradable substances. They are important in waster water management and treatment. Without fungi, life wouldnt get recycled. Fungi decays the dead and decaying matter.

5, Health- Beneficial microbes unique to one s body is essential for living. They are required for proper functioning of the body and also protects our cells from pathogenic microbes.

Therefore bacteria is required for different sectors such as food, industries, agriculture and for protecting environment as well as viability of most of the organisms.

Public health microbiologist

  • The work of a public health microbiologist is to analyse, identify and characterise the microbes which causes illness among the public. They interpret the connection between microbes and the disease caused by them and their effect in the public and take steps to control it.
  • They are suppose to control the outbreaks of diseases by quick steps and suppose to take steps to prevent communicable diseases and other seriuos health hazards
  • Their main goal is to reduce the illness and diseases among the public due to microbes (pathogens)
