7)Scopolamine

Generic name ;scopolamine, hyosine

Brand name : transderm scop,scopace

Therapsutic classification: anti emetic

Pharmacological classification: anticholinergic

Indication: nausea and vomitting assosiated withmotion sickness,post operative nausea and vomiting . Also treat certain stomach and intestinal problems ( irritable bowel syndrom), muscle spasm( parkinsonism), eye inflamation

Contraindication: patients with narrow angle glaucoma, hypersensitivity to any other belladona alkaloid.

Adverse reaction

CNS:confusion, head ache, hallucination, memory prblem

RS: respiratory failure

Cvs: variation in blood pressure

Skin: flushing irritation rashes

Genitourinary: retension of urine

Eye: blurred vision, increased sensitivity to light, increased eye pressure

Dosage range: 0.3 to 0.6 mg

Nursing intervention

Patient counselling

▪ transdermal patch :use only one patch at a time. Do not cut the patch. Apply the patchnin hairless area.

▪ eye drops: clean the tip before using. Discard the medication after 1 month of use. Tightly close the container after use.

▪ consult the doctor if any adverse reaction produce.

Precautions

Nurse should take special care to

▪ patients with angle closure glaucoma

▪ patient with pyschatric disorders

▪ seizures

▪ urinary disorders

Generic name: tolterodine

Brand name : detrol,detrol LA

Therapeutic class: antispasmodic

Pharmacological class: antimuscarinic

Indication: over active bladder

Side effects

CNS: vertigo, dizziness,head ache

CBS: chest pain, tachycardia, palpaitation

Rs : cough ,shortness of breath

Gastrointestinal : constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain

Genitourinary:dysuria

Skin : dry skin, rashes

Musculoskeletal :arthralgia,joint pain

Eye: xerothalmia

Contraindication

Patients with urinary retention, gastric retension, hypersensitivity to drug.

Dosage range :2_4 mg

Nursing intervention

Patient counselling

▪Advice patient to take medicine as per prescription

▪Any adverse reactions experineced ,consult the doctor immediately

▪If a dose is missed, do not take overdose.

▪Store the medication in room temprature out of light.

Precautions

Take care to Patients with urinary retension, gastro intestinal problems, mysthenia gravis, QT prolongation, angioedema, hepatic and renal impairement .
