How do organizations exercise social responsibility toward the environment?
Organisations are exercising social responsibility by being sensitive about the climate change due to global warming. They are trying to find out sustainable way of producing products and services which is in sync with the nature. Air and Water pollution is a major concern for the present world. Customers and investors who are concerned about global warming are disassociating themselves from brands who are not producing their products and services in an environmental friendly way and their action is influencing organisations to change the way they do business in order to retain their customers/investors.
In order to bolster their image and to build their brand values, organisations are trying to connect with their customers/investors by supporting their cause and who in turn remain loyal to the brand as the organization is doing something that is close to their heart or that is what they believe in. It makes the customer feel that they are participating indirectly in supporting the cause that they believe in, by buying the products and services of the brand that are fighting or supporting monetarily for that cause by contributing certain percentage of their profit or otherwise.
Below are the way by which organisations exercise their social responsibility :
1) Climate change : By being environmental friendly and by following sustainable ways of doing business. Examples : biodegradable packaging, sourcing raw materials without extreme exploitation of nature or in a sustainable way.
2) Health : By using quality or organic raw materials to produce products and services which doesn't harm their customer's health.
3) By supporting aforestation
4) By using green energy to run their organisation. Example: solar panel
5) By following the five R's of waste management: reduce, reuse, recycle, recover and residual management.
