How does the stereotype of men being nurses affect my delivery of nursing care or my ability to deliver pt. care being a female nurse?
Many people think only females are nurses. How could this affect me as a female?
A Stereotype is a mistaken idea or belief many people have about a thing or group that is based upon how they look in the out side.it may be untrue or only partially true. Stereotyping people is a type of prejudice because what is on the outside is a small part of a person is. Many people experience some kind of discrimination, stereotyping or even prejudice against them at some point in their lives because of their race, sex, and even some because of their job. Progressive attitudes towards gender roles have contributed to more men entering the nursing field.
Stereotyping if men affect the delivery of nursing care in some situations , it will affect the ability of nursing care as a female nurses by increasing work burde. Many of patients not accept care by Male because of stereotyping . In situations like general physical examination of female,in labour room , not only because of gender, main cause of this stereo typing is one strong belief of men's not show ethical concern and not work with empathy. But now a days more male nurses are providing empathetic compassionate Care.
