Expert Solution

For a successful interview of the patient with psychiatric illness demonstration of empathy towards the patient is necessary because by showing empathy towards the psychiatric patient the interviews able to gain the belief and confidence.

The presence of an informant is also necessary during the interview of psychiatry patients because the psychiatry patient can't able to give the proper information regarding the sign and symptoms and also can't provide the correct history, so here the informant is necessary to provide the correct information regarding the patient.

Reassuring the patient that you are not judging them is an important aspect during the psychiatry interview because with a mental disorder the patient thinks that other persons are judging him for that the patient does not express his feelings with others. As a result, the interviewer can't able to recognize the thought process and feelings of the patient.

Always avoid the use of closed-ended questions during the interview of a psychiatry patient because a close-ended questionnaire limits the thought process. Asking open-ended questions allows the patient to ventilate his feelings and express his thoughts which plays a great role in diagnosis.

Answer - a. The use of closed-ended questions
