Reassuring the patient that you are not judging them is an important aspect during the psychiatry interview because with a mental disorder the patient thinks that other persons are judging him for that the patient does not express his feelings with others. As a result, the interviewer can't able to recognize the thought process and feelings of the patient.
Always avoid the use of closed-ended questions during the interview of a psychiatry patient because a close-ended questionnaire limits the thought process. Asking open-ended questions allows the patient to ventilate his feelings and express his thoughts which plays a great role in diagnosis.
