- From your experiences with the healthcare system, which social determinant of health do you think should be the priority? Why?
- How has the healthcare payment system in the United States led to many of the health disparities we currently see
Ans.) Social determinants of health (SDH) is the factors which includes all the medical care that can be influenced by social policies and health in powerful ways. Basically, SDH is collection of the conditions in which an individual spends his whole life (from their birth to death). The main social determinant of healthcare system, given the priority is socioeconomic status. As we all know that socioeconomic status play a very important role in determining the health care of an induvidual or community. Moreover, it is the major cause of inequality in health care services. Hence, equal preference should be given everyone irrespective of their socioeconomic status.
The healthcare payment system in the United States hugely affects the entire health care management system which cause disparities in health care sector. This is due to the fact that health and health care practices are commonly observed on the basis of socioeconomic status, race and ethnicity. Hence, the people from richer and influential class get better treatment than the people who survive in relatively weaker financial conditions. This is the reason healthcare payment system in the United States led to many of the health disparities.
