Evidence based practice:
Evidence based practice is an vital component of the practice and it can allow the nurses to have to incorporate indication practice in nursing and the fact of moving in to more leadership roles. They will also play an important role when it comes to implementing strategies to reach underserved populations as more research is being completed on the population health. Another point would be increasing the number of BSN prepared nurses would help build a pipeline of potential master and doctoral candidates who will eventually bring evidence based practice in nursing across the continuum of healthcare services.
Evidence based nursing practice procedure involves explore and basic examination of discoveries to decide the most applicable confirmation, execution of the best practice discoveries and assessment of results as they identify with the patient, the medical caretaker and the association general. The five steps nursing process, assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing and evaluation comes under nursing process and these steps will be taken for a patient in order to analyze the condition and taking care according to it. EBP is also one of the most important practices because, in order to take a decision, perfect research evidences and also with the integration of clinical experts, decisions should be taken for the patients care. Among these, the first is critical thinking and this is very important in analyzing the patient problem and taking decision or action according to it. Taking a wrong step in this aspect may leads to a deadly risk to the patient. This is the reason; the critical thinking, nursing practice and EBP are fit together in patients care.
Ex1. Oxygen Use in Patients with COPD:
In nursing when it comes to giving oxygen to patients with COPD. Despite the belief by some that providing oxygen to these patients can create serious issues such as hypercarbia, acidosis or even death, the evidence-based protocol is to provide oxygen to COPD patients. This practice can help prevent hypoxia and organ failure. Giving oxygen, which is the correct treatment based on the evidence, can enhance COPD patients’ quality of life and help them live longer.
Ex2. Measuring Blood Pressure Noninvasively in Children:
Nurses should measure blood pressure according to evidence-based practice because accurate measurements are an essential part of effective treatment. Measuring blood pressure in children is a different procedure than it is for adults.
Due to lack of proper coordination between research and nursing, nurses are not able to understand the medical condition of patients. Pre-clinical research and evidences should be provided to the nurses that enable them to deliver better services. Therefore, collaborative research should be implemented for execution of EBP. Medical experts and researchers must share their observations mutually to improve the nursing care outcome
