Share your thoughts on the interrelationship of research and evidence-based practice(EBP).

How are changes in practice accomplished and what are the barriers to implementing EBP?

According to me research and evidence-based practice are closely interrelated. Using different methods, new things are discovered everyday and sources of new knowledge about things are being extracted. This process is called research. This research becomes the base for evidence-based practice which is systematic process in which help of clinical expertise is taken and at the same time data is also gathered from patient and a whole new clinical decisions for improved patient care.

The changes in the practice are acomplished in the following ways -

• With a strong will of conducting the social experiments, nurses ask various clinical questions to different patients
• Then they look out for significant evidence in the recorded data
• Enhancing the quality of existing research with relevant approval from clinical expertise and validating it to final stage
• Applying the clinical outcome in the decision making process for patient's health care

The barriers in implementing EBP are -

• Lack of workforce (human resources like nurses and staff members)
• Lack of knowledge about how to implement EBP in an health care system
• Lack of resources to access the existing research
• Lack of will from the higher authorities in the organization
• Lack of time due to fully occupied schedule
