1. ELECTORAL COLLEGE SYSTEM : In this system each state gets certain number of electors according to the total number of representataives in congress. each elector can casts one electoral vote in the election.there are a total of 538 electoral votes.the participant acheives more than 270 would wins the election.
it is general body established in us consistution ,every 4 years election contesting to elect president and vice precident . this was created in the 12th amendment - ratified in 1804 by tie breaking system established by the consistution by which the house of representatives breaks a tie on presidential electoral votes and the senate .purpose of creation : it was created as an alternative to electing the president by popular vote or by congress.electors from each state in their capital and caste vote for the selection of president and vice price president.
2.electoral college operates on the basis of candidate who acheives more vote wins the election in the state,these elected candidates from 50 states vote election in capital city,finally they choose president and vise president through election. popular vote is an indirect election, is the total number or percentage of votes cast for a candidate by voters in the 50 states and washington d.c. but in us both popular and electoral vote considered in election. in 2000,2016 elections produced electoral college winner who didnot produced much votes in general election.main demerit here is people choice doesnt concerned and it is undemocractic.many criticism are on going against this system.
3.many people are unliked this constitutional view of us,but the foundational body claiming that electoral college provided the constitutional convention with a compromise between popular election of the president and congressional selection.
