What are the advantages and disadvantages of decentralized government? Why can a federal system of government take advantage of both centralized and decentralized collective decision making? Why are local governments likely to be limited to a greater degree than the central government in the extent to which they can engage in redistribution and stabilization programs?
Decentraiized govewrnment means where the power to make decision in the process of running a country doesnt have a signle but multiple authority so that there is no chance of abuse of power. for instance legislator made a law but it is against the constitution here the judciary has the power to tell the legislator that the law made by them isnt not according to the constitution.
Advantage :
1. check and balace : decentralized for =m of government helps in keeping the governement and other organs of the govenrment in check. In decentralization the powers isnt vasted in one hand, it protects from the misuse of power.
Like in india Prime minister doesnt take all the decisions on its own , he have to ask the council of minister and with their advice the prime minister works. it helps in keeping in check the powers of prime minister.
2. large body involvement : with the power being distributed the involvement of people in this from of government increases. It doesnt remains in few hands but it most of the people's hand. It makes the government to work more efficicently.
Disadvantage :
1. makes the system slow : the process of decision making in the decentralized form of government is a slow process. its time consuming. the approval eats the a lot of time.
2. secession : too much imdenpence can leads to secession. people of local bodies or state can think that they can stand on their own. they dont need the upper body to govern them.
3. inefficient : sometimes decentralization can leads to inefficency. person of not qualifiction can choose for the a post whcih usually happens in develping countries.
Local government are limited as they are establised for a local areas where the central government cannot look after. central cannot be possible able to look after the needs of the everyone in the country that's local governments were establised. even after the establisment of the local system that doesnt mesn central lost his say in the matter, central can policies, redistribute the reasources and develpment programs.
