Give a brief overview of airborne transmission and discuss how an imaging technologist would protect themselves.
1 When an infected person coughs or sneezes pathogenic organisms which is discharged remain suspended in the air on dust particles, respiratory and water droplets.illness is caused when the microbe is inhaled or contacts mucous membranes or when secretions remaining on a surface are touched.if proper social and respiratory etiquette are practiced we can reduce transmission of diseases to an extent. We can reduce the spread of infection to a limit by proper handwashing .
2 An imaging technologist get infection, when he comes in contact with patients ,who is infected with microbes. The transmissiuon of diseases mainly occurs through contact and droplet and airborne routes.Hand hygiene must be praticed by the technologist both before and after the patient contact and before and after use of Personal protective equipment.Proper hand hygiene includes washing hands with soap and water when exposed to certain infectious particles such as Clostridium difficile spores which are not inactivated by alcohol-based hand rubs.Application of respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette can reduce the transmission of droplet and airborne pathogens.Imaging technologist wear PPE which includes wearing a surgical mask during lumbar puncture. In the event of a needle stick injury ,they must be able to quickly provide appropriate initial management and seek medical attention.
