Communication is an important aspect in healthcare system. Through proper communication only we can provide efficent care to patients. The communicationbetween a patheint and health care probvider is a theraputeic communication. So there are many barriers are present in maintaining proper communication as well as a proper relationship between them.
Barriers of communication include:
Sterotyping: Offering generalized and oversimplified beliefs about group of people that are based on experiences too limited to be valid.
Agreeing and disagreeing: Akin to judgmental responses, agreeing and diagreeing imply that the client is either right or wrong.
Being defensive: Attempting to protect a person or health care service from negative comments.
Probing: Asking for information cgiefly out of curiosity rather than with the intent to assist the client.
Rejecting: Refusing to discuss certain topics with the client.
Changing topics and subjects: Directing the communication into areas of self interset rather than considering the client's concern is often a self protective response to a topic that cause anxiety.
Giving common advice: Telling the client what to do. These responses deny the client's right to be an equal partner.
This are some types of barriers in communication. Which will affect the communication and also lead to lack of proper understanding of problems and inappropriate care.
