  • Considering that DSM IV where Pervasive developmental disorders included  Autistic Disorder, Asperger's Disorder, Rett's Disorder, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder and Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified.   DSM 5 redefined autism as a new diagnosis to be called as Autism spectrum disorder. Here, the contemporary areas of diagnostic criteria are (a) social communication/interaction (b) restrictive/repetitive behaviours.According to me, It is a progressive decision for inclusion because this has led to the reduction of social related elements (as described in (a) and (b)) in diagnosis.
  • In regard to the reclassification of Asperger's syndrome as level 1 high functioning syndrome. It is evident that children diagnosed with asperger's might not have delays in communication and language.Becuase a normal language development is a necessity requirement for asperger's.Conclusively, It may not be appropriate to include asperger's in autism spectrum.
  • Yes , it would be right to say that people with autism may have special abilities and talents.Research and observation has shown that children with autism have the ability to read at a very early age, excellent memorizing and logical thinking capability.

Good Luck!
