organization?
Nurse N: About 15years

manager in this field?
Nurse N: Our main role as a supervisor to supervising the nurse
staff and oversee patient care, etc...

Nurse N: patient we receive from different cultural backgrounds,
ethnic groups, different age groups, and different disease
conditions...
Interviewer: Can you please share about any ethical dilemma that
you face in your experience?
Nurse N: Yes, as a nurse manager we use to face so many ethical
dilemmas in day to day practice, recently we had one patient in the
oncology unit, name person P, he is just 15years old with brain
tumor, and he was almost at the end of the stage, the patient
family was very sensitive with patient treatment and no want to
withhold the treatment. the patient was receiving many medications
and there were many procures was going on for the patient. the
patient is just 15 years old, the patient father is very much
particular to withhold all the treatment in end of life care. but
as a medical professional the provider tries to convince father and
mother for continuing treatment with detailed information and the
provider explained there is a chance if we continue the treatment
for some extension, but the provider was in critical thinking when
patient autonomy being compromised.
Interviewer: How did you handle the situation?
Nurse N: The issue was resolved by a proper explanation about
patient needs and conditions because patient can sustain life with
meaningful existence with a ventilator and feeding tube. providing
detailed information about advanced medical treatment during the
end of life about benefits, limitations, and disadvantages with the
treatment. it needs communication between patients and providers
regarding patient treatment and care. It provided complete
satisfaction when the family understands the situation.
Interviewer: thank you nurse N!
Point of view:
As a nurse we should speak up to advocate for family and patient,
then only their preference will be respected and known, it helps to
incorporated with treatment by providing knowledge and adequate
treatment plan. ethical principles like autonomy, beneficence,
nonmaleficence, and justice assist the nurse with expected behavior
and with professional discipline. Rather than focus on only
intervention nurses should have their own morals, beliefs, and
values about medical treatment and decisions that help patients
with treatment benfit.
