Title: Interventions for the prevention of catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) in ICU.
The purpose of this study is to find best practices to reduce infections. Because it is commonly occur in patients as nosocomial infections which further leads to more infections, complications and prolong the hospital stay.Ultimately the patient outcome becomes poor.
Objectives: To reduce the CAUTI or to prevent it.
Interventions: setting criteria for catheter use.
(All the time it is no need for all the patients to have catheter sometimes many patients after coming from recovery room after surgery they will be conscious and oriented so it is our duty to encourage the client to pass urine in bedpan. It is applicable only to few clients and to some minor surgery).
Daily review of catheter necessity.
(Because as like mentioned above soon after some procedure we should assess the condition of the client and review for the need of catheter.Because this unnecessary use of catheter is leading to infections).
Discontinuation of catheter for applicable clients.
Proper usage of protocols strictly .
All these helps to reduce the CAUTI.
Data: Data obtained from electronic databases and from patients in ICU's.
Results :By following these interventions it results in successful outcome of client.
