What would change if the lungs did not produce Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme?

What is/are the differences between the two sphincters of the urinary bladder? (Can you make a chart for this one :) )

Thanks so much <3

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer

1)

  • Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) converts angiotensin-I into angiotensin-II.
  • Angiotensin-II is a vasoconstrictor. It also stimulates aldosterone release from adrenal cortex.
  • If lungs did not produce Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme, this conversion will not occur.
  • Unavailability of angiotensin-II will prevent vasoconstriction and in turn prevents increase in blood pressure. Also deficiency of aldosterone will lead to excess loss of sodium in urine.
  • Collectively, there will be increased loss of sodium and water as well as decreased blood pressure below normal.

2)

  • The two sphincters that allows emptying of urine from urinary bladder are urethral sphincters.

Enalaprilat is a competitive inhibitor of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACEACE), which cleaves the blood-pressure regulating peptide angiotensin I. ACEACE has a KM=52KM=52 μMμM for angiotensin I, which is present in plasma at a concentration of 78 μMμM. When enalaprilat is present at 2.8 nMnM, the activity of ACE in plasma is 13 %% of its uninhibited activity. What is the value of KIKI for enalaprilat?
