How to educate a patient. on performing Kegel exercises
ANSWER:-
* Kegel exercises are simple exercises done by contracting and relaxing pelvic floor muscles.
* Kegel exercises or pelvic floor exercises are done to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, which support and keep pelvic organs like bladder, bowel and female reproductive organs in place.
* It is useful to treat incontinence of stool and urine.
* You can identify pelvic floor muscles - these are the muscles that are used to hold or stop stream of urine ( do not actually stop urine while urinating, because this can cause urinary tract infection) ,or the muscles which are used to hold back bowel movements or keep yourself from passing gas .
* Make sure to not to contract buttocks, abdominal muscles and thigh muscles.Keep them relaxed.
* Before you start make yourself comfortable by sitting, lying down or standing .( It can be done in any position that you feel comfortable)
* Take a deep breathe in through your nose and relax, keep your pelvic floor muscles relaxed.
* Breathe out slowly and smoothly through mouth as you gently contract your pelvic floor muscles(as trying to hold your urine stream ,or holding bowel movements or keep yourself from passing gas)and hold for 3 to 5 seconds by counting 1,2,3,4,5.
* Breathe in again and release the contraction .This helps to relax the pelvic floor muscles.make sure that you take 5 to 10 seconds and completely relax the muscles.
* Repeat it for 10 cycles at a time for 2to 3 times per day.
