Research has shown that individuals who have androgynous gender roles tend to have better mental health. How might parents raise their children to encourage this development, rather than rigid male or female gender roles
Andro comes from a greek word Andro meaning man and Gyny meaning woman.Based on Individual responses one of the gender role responses ,feminine.masculine, androgynous or undifferentiated. An androgeneous person is a male or a female who has high degree of both feminie as in expresseve and masculine as in instrumental traits. It means a person can look like male or female. The idea of gender identity is related to the role of a particular gender according to the society and how we are accepted. Males are expected to do certain things like taking care of the family needs and a woman cooks and takes care of the children. Times have changed where the roles have been interchanged and woman cook, take care of the family and earn.we do see a combination of both of masculine and feminine characteristcs.Rigid roles are not a healthy environment for the children as they may develop lack of self esteem and confidence. Adaptablity to situation will not be present.
