Research has shown that individuals who have androgynous gender roles tend to have better mental health. How might parents raise their children to encourage this development, rather than rigid male or female gender roles
Androgynous gender roles is when a child is raised without the preconceptios that a particular task is meant only for a specific gender but anyone can do it as long as they are interested. In todays world things are changing and so are parenting techniques. In the ealier time parentd were encouraged to let girls do what their supposed to like knitting or cleaning the house and other everyday chores whereas the boys get to go out and fend for the family as well as do the hard labour jobs. This kind of behaviour was justified and people encourage it. Altough times have changed and according to latest research it is more developmental for children to grow up with an environment where there are no reconceived stereotypes as in todays world anyone can do anything.
In order for this to happen in our environment or society it needs to first happen at home. Everything starts there. Parents can pla a big role on how it done. They an first start off by not buying gender stereotypical clothe choices like pink for girls and blue for boys they can go with neutral colors like red or yellow or even green. Also when allocating chores to the chldren they can be given without looking at their gender first. Both boys and girls can both have equal days to do the dishes and both of them must have the opportunity to go buy the groceries. This way we are not subjecting them to the stereotype that woen are meant to stay at home and take care of it while the man goes out for food. It can reversed. Children should be given chores they enjoy doing and not crtize them for enjoying them. For example if a boy loves to help his mother in the kitchen and cook he should be encourage too.
