DESCRIPTION OF PTOCEDURE:- Cerebral theombectomy is a procedure in which the blood clots are removed from the brain by making an incision.This is a therapeutic procedure mostly done in Cerebro vascular accidents (stroke).

INDICATION

-Blood clots in brain

-Trauma or injury of brain

-Stroke ( mostly ischemic)

-Any cerebral arterial or venous occlusion

OUTCOME /EVALUATION

Its effective when the procedure is done within 6-12 hours of onset any stroke symptoms. If the procedure is done eary we can reduce the morbidity and mortality and the procedure is very effective in recanalisation of the vessels and reassure blood flow.

POTENTIAL COMPLICATIONS

Pre complications

-A good observation through CT /MRI is needed before doing the procedure.

-Delay in procedure will be useless or lethal

-Over sedation

-Hypotension

Intra complications

-Access site injury (veins /nerves/hematoma)

-Risk of infection

-Intra cerebral or subarachnoid haemorrhage

-Device related injuries ( arterial perforations)

-Vasospasm

-Risk of bleeding.

-lack of skill can make the procedure further complicated

Post complications

-Risk of infection

-Post procedural Bleeding

-Pain and swelling

-Rosk of formation of hematoma again.

CLIENT EDUCATION :- Mostly client education are given if the stroke is mild and the patient is coherent and concious or else the attendance are explained regarding all these.

-Assess the general condition of patient .

-Explain to have a comfortable position where head end elevated a bit.

-Explain regarding the procedure to the patient.

-Explain the advantages , possible outcomes and complications to the patient.

-Explain regarding the client condition and possible effective treatment.

-Explain regarding importance of wound care and management.

NURSING INTERVENTIONS

-Assess the general condition of patient.

-Provide comfortable position.

-Administer medications as prescribed by doctor.

-Assess the client pain score and monitor vitals.

-Explain the client regarding procedure and its benifits.

-Check the site for any infection,leakage and drainage.

-Provide wound dressing.

-Provide health education.

-Provide psychological support.

-Provide diversional therapy.
