magine that you are representing the staff in the health care agency where you work. In anticipation of a possible outbreak of a deadly new strain of flu, the administration has decreed that all staff must present documentation of adequate immunity against this new flu before gaining access to any patient care settings. The required flu vaccine and immunity test have only been developed and marketed in the past year.
As the staff representative concerned for the rights and safety
of your constituents, what questions would you raise about the
accuracy of the immunity screening test?
Based on your general understanding of disease processes, what
concerns would you have about this new flu strain in terms of its
impact on staff, clients, and the agency’s readiness to handle an
outbreak?
As a staff representative, it's important to question things implemented on the them. To make sure the tests are accurate, questions about the factors influencing the test, about laboratory standards and will a pre-existing allergies contribute to the hypersensitive reactions? Should be raised. And a detailed results of the tests done In the past and how accurate the results were should be asked to know.
The concern about the new flu strain should be:
* what characteristics does the flu hold, how will this affect the human body?, what is its incubation period?, what is its mode of transmission?, what are the warning signs that indicates it's infection?, what precautions to be taken to avoid it's transmission? What priorities should be noticed when caring for the client?.
The agency should be made alert of its presence anywhere in the locality. Primary health care should be initiated to prevent the occurrence and spread of infection by providing vaccination. Hospitals should be given information regarding the outbreak of the flu and the probability patients inflow. Patients with such infection should be treated and cared with precautions to avoid further spread of infection. Every staff taking care of such patients should be immunised.
