What does it mean to bill “incident to physician services? Can RDs bill for IBT for obesity?
The Incident to” services is a outpatient services and it was supervised by certain non-physician practitioners (NPP) such as a nurse midwives, clinical nurse specialists, nurse practitioners, clinical psychologists or physician assistants and these services are subject to the same requirements as physician supervised services. In most of the cases the incident services are supervised by non-physician practitioners are reimbursed at 85 percent of the physician fee schedule.
During the intensive behavioral therapy (IBT) for obesity, the RD and RN practitioners will provide cutting edge information to screening for obesity by using measurement like Dietary (nutritional) assessment and behavioral therapy (behavioral counseling) to promote sustained weight loss. They provide their valuable time on clients, so they can charge or bill for IBT for obesity. Nowadays the primary care providers to provide the new IBT for Obesity benefit under Medicare.
