Discuss what is known about TAN1 and the mutant tan1? What is CRISPR/Cas9? Please explain thoroughly
TAN1:-
It is gene codes for protein microtubule binding protein TANGLED 1.It mainly found in plants like maize.
It is required for spatial control cell division during leaf development. And after an association with microtubules, acts both for the positioning of cytoskeletal arrays that establish planes of cell division during prophase and for spatial guidance of expanding phragmoplasts toward preestablished cortical division sites (CDS) during cytokinesis.
Mutant Tan1:-It displays a shorter stature with smaller, more erect leaves than normal. It has a distinctly roughened leaves, crepe-papery texture compared to the smooth surface of a normal leaf.
CRISPR/Cas9:-CRISPR(Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats) and Cas9 is CRISPR associated Protein 9
It is currently the simplest, cheapest and most versatile technology and precise method of genetic manipulation
The CRISPR-Cas9 - In this ,Researchers create a small piece of RNA with a short guide sequence that attaches to a specific target sequences of DNA in a genome. The RNA also binds to the Cas9 enzyme. As in the bacteria, the modified RNA is used to recognize the DNA sequence and Cas9 enzyme cuts the DNA at the targeted location.
As the DNA is cut ,researchers use the cell's own DNA repair machinery to add or delete pieces of genetic material
