Factors that lead to problem with brain development are :
Gene mutations.
Maternal infection.
Fetal stroke.
Bleeding into brain.
Infant infection.
Traumatic brain injury.
Lack of oxygen.
Certain infections or toxic exposure during pregnancy can significantly increase cerebral palsy risk to the baby. Infections of particular type include :
Cytomegalovirus.
German measles.
Heroes.
Syphilis.
Toxoplasmosis.
Illness in newborn baby that can greatly increase the risk of cerebral palsy include :
Bacterial meningitis.
Viral encephalitis.
Severe or untreated jaundice.
Bleeding into brain.
Complications:
Contracture.
Premature ageing.
Malnutrition.
Mental health problems.
Heart and lung disease.
Osteoarthritis.
Osteopenia.
prevention:
Most cases of cerebral palsy can't be prevented but lessen the risk.
A pregnant women can take following measure inorder to lessen the risk :
1) Make sure that vaccination are properly done.
2) Taking care of health : the healthier you are heading to pregnancy, the less likely you develop cerebral infection leading to cerebral palsy.
3) seek early and continuous prenatal care.
4) practice good child safety.
5) avoid alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs.
Therapeutic intervention:
Recreation therapy: Recreation therapy or therapeutic recreation focuses on designing ways in which an individual can fully participate in recreational activities of their choice.
Recreation therapist works to identify the interest levels, capabilities, adaptive approaches, and in some cases modified processes required to successfully complete.
It enhances the ability of the child with cerebral palsy to plan, strategize and perform tasks in an effort to achieve improved physical functioning and encourage emotional well being by facilitating inclusion into activities they benifit by and enjoy.
This will provide quality of life.
