Environmental sustainability means to make the resources available in the environment around us sustain in a manner where adequate amount of quantity is being left for the futute to use. It simply means to achieve a position where things are being effectively utilised. The three dimensions for the same are:
1. Social solidarity: It involves the equal access to resources and opportunities, the wellfare of the proplr, quality of life to be sustained, improving the living needs with a healthy long life.
2. Environmental responsibility: It involves the ability of everyone to use the naturla resources without disturbing the equilibrium level and the integrity of the ecosystems cause any harm to the environment.
3. Economic Efficiency: This talks about reaching the integrity and effectivity for the economical and technological activities, productivity, sustaining growth and output potential.
Operating with environment sustainability in the level of competition would possibly have a strategical impact in the business environment. Walmart as an example has reduced its costs effectively and also the environmental impacts by setting a tough objective and standard for its own activities and operations all of its suppliers regarding the waste elimination, packaging, energy usage etc. This goal has effectively worked where 60,000 suppliers have raised their environmental performance. This made the Walmart be effectively stronger than its competitors in the market as it made a higher goodwill and brand name to be achieved and thus keeps the level of competition continued to make other companies to perform better.
Factors like Government interventions, Differentiation in the market, higher profitability, higher customer attraction and retention, customer support are the basic factors which influence the role of environmental sustainbility in the marketing performance. Where government interventions talk about green accounting and other rules for the companies to follow to increase the awareness about the environment, companies like H&M and Amazon take initiatives by themselves to save the environment at large levels by using the minimal waste creation activities etc to gain goodwill and complete their Corporate Social Responsibility.
