RESIDENTIAL LONG TERM CARE
residential long term care settings are the facilities which provide 24 hour nursing care, supervisison, help in daily activities, meals, medication administration etc. these long term residential care settings include nursing homes , assisted living etc.
HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT
in the united states, national social insurence programme medicare was established by the federa; government on 1965. this guaranteed access to health insurence for americans aged 65 and above. this programme promotes the setting up of nursing homes, however the priate nursing homes were already established since 1930's. in 1987, a report examined the nursing home problems and reported thet 13 large institutions were certified as skilled nursing facilities.
a major nursing home reform initiative was occured in 1996, when the health care financing administration studied its own facilities and reported to US congress on the effectiveness of the current system and certification of nursing homes.
in 1998 president annonced to include monitoring of poor performance, collection of new fees and increased focus on nutrition and basic personal care.
by 2000, minimum staffing ratios and nursing home quality of care were introdused.
