Do you think there is a long-term care crisis in the United States? Why or why not?
Why was managed care developed? Do you think managed care is a good way to provide healthcare services? Why or why not?
1) Long term care is a variety of services that include medical and non medical care to anyone who has a chronic illness or disability. Long - term care is provided to a person who needs assistance for more than 90 days after surgery, an accident or chemotherapy or too many years in an institutional setting. Long term care is to assist people with support services such as activities of daily living ( ADLs) like bathing, dressing, getting out of bed, eating and using the bathroom and instrumental activities of daily living ( IADLs) such as managing money, grocery, shopping, housekeeping and managing medications.
I think there is a long term care crisis in United State because of staff shortages, over growing aging population, nursing home cost, service providers, government policies and manufactures. Staff shortages is a big use because of low wages for nursing assistants, the population is a problem because of the baby boomers. Service providers can be difficult to find that take a certain insurance. It can be hard for nursing homes or facilities to meet all of the government laws.
On the other side, technology plays an important role to long term care to improve the quality in the healthcare and efficacy to improve the quality of life of long term care residents. Technology radically reforms current care practices. Health information technology will facilitate coordination, improve quality of care and enhance efficiency in long term care and across the health care delivery continuum.
