Watch Red Moon: Menstruation, Culture & the Politics of Gender on Daily Motion
How does this film demonstrate the interactions between reproductive health and social structures and politics?
Menstruation has always been considered a taboo within our
socities and speaking about it openly has been taught to us that
brings shame. Diana fabianova , the film maker says on a given
point of time 25% of women might be menstruating without anyone
having a clue about it. Periods are since always considered as a
girl thing and also shameful. Periods are inappropriate for public
discussion. She refused to accept this norm and to suffer in
silence. Menstruation is a boon , a miracle - the ability to give
life! The way it is laughed at and considered shameful and a curse
is not appropriate.
It is ironic and gives you a laugh , Fabianova's Red Moon provides
a fascinating take on the absurd cultural stigmas and superstitions
surrounding women's menstruation. The film is a myth buster for the
population and also considers how the society functions as separate
male and female sections - menstruation being important but both
the section but only one of the section is held accountable. Maybe
if the society turns more accepting some of the women won't think
of unsubscribing menstruation. The importance of the menstrual
cycle and its effects over the moods of the female are also
considered in the film.
