Bandura (1998) argues that “the quality of health of a nation is a social matter not just a personal one,” (p.644), and he suggests that “if we are to contribute significantly to the betterment of human health we must broaden our perspective on health promotion and disease prevention beyond the individualistic level,” (p.647). Do you agree with his argument, and do you think his charge to health educators is feasible? Why or why not?

Use constructs from Social Cognitive Theory to explain why some can overcome great odds to change lives and behaviors, while others, apparently similar, are “stuck” and cannot change? What makes the difference?
1. How do cults and gangs use moral disengagement to change members’ behaviors, often in a negative manner?
2. Health educators can be mentors or advisors for behavior changes such as tobacco cessation or weight control, but think how this affects long-term change and maintenance. What are some strategies for improving maintenance of desirable behavior change?
3. Do professional helpers need to be part of the same social network as those they help, to be effective? Why or why not?
4. How have new technologies such as the Internet increased social networks? What are the benefits and hazards? Compare this to time when the telephone was a new technology and how it increased social networks. How do you think technology will expand again: what will next increase social networks?
Cults and gangs use moral disengagement to change members behaviours.Moral engagement refers to the ways people rationalize about and frame inhuman acts.Certain acts allow us to view it as a moral reason and for the betterment. It involves different kind of reasoning for immoral behaviour. It requires being sympathetic and empathetic, acknowledging the negative effect of others in inhuman behaviour.Cults and gangs imply their behaviour moral according to them and create a moral reasoning among the selected memebrs to accept what they are saying is right .
Health educators are mentors to change the behaviour of a person. This is done by communicating the right messages to the people and the message conveyed is done in aspects of making the understand the reason for the behaviour, harmful effects, how they can modify the behaviour and how people should adhere to modification. Some strategies for improving behaviour change are either through positive or negative reinforcement. For exampe if one was to be treated for alchoholism they are induced with excess alchohol to bring an aversion to them so that they refrain from drinking again.
Proffesiional helpers need not be part of same social networks.to be effective. The platform of social networks is to enhance contacts with people. In this case communication strategy has to be effective.Proffesional helpers can be more effective in the same social networks as they can exchange messages and there is new scope of learning from people in the same industry and exchange of case studies and so on.
Social netwrok has become more of a neccessity in one's life today. In earlier days telephone was the only medium of communication. Now technology has advanced as to bring people closer to each other even if they are thousands of miles apart.Techology is getting more advanced as days are passing by in all sectors.Hazards is people dont communicate with each other they spend more time os social platforms and this can prove to be dangerous if not used properly in an effective manner.
