Technical skill-The ability to perform a specific job
in the field they work.
Conceptional skill-The ability to think beyond the
department in which you work to understand how the entire
organization function as a whole.
Human Skill-The soft skills of connecting and
interacting with people.
Tell me about a time you encounter a manager who
possess one of these skills. How did they effectively manage their
team using the skill identified?
If a manager doesn’t possess these skills do you think
they can be an effective manager. Why or Why not.
Question 1:
Tell me about a time you encounter a manager who possesses one of these skills. How did they effectively manage their team using the skill identified?
I have been working in a grocery store. I accidentally spilled an OIL container over the ground. I informed the floor supervisor about my spillage. He informed me and a facilities team member to clean the area of the Spillage. I and the facilities team member who is assigned to clean the floor has no experience with this work and could not clean it efficiently, and in the meantime, oil has spread all over the floor in that particular row. We both were in a nervous mode, at this point our manager has arrived at the scene. He has portrayed a high-level technical skill and human skill. He immediately trained us with the correct usage of chemicals and equipment to be used for cleaning purposes. At the same time, he was giving a great customer service by apologizing for the inconvenience caused due to the spillage. Overall his skills have taught us how effectively we can handle things during the disruption.
Question 2:
If a manager doesn’t possess these skills do you think they can be an effective manager? Why or Why not.
If a manager does not possess the above skills, he/she might not be an effective manager. A manager needs to organize, maintain, and monitor the overall operations of the organization. He plays a key role in training the employees.
If the manager does not have Technical skills, how can he/she train their team? How can technical problems be monitored or resolved?
A manager is a key person who works and coordinates among different departments and take a decision which is very important. If he/she does possess the conceptional skill set, how can they work among the departments and a whole how can they understand policies of how the organization runs.
A manager must be a good team player, encouraging the staff and motivating. If he/she does not possess Human skills, how can he/she interact with the team and connect with the team. This is one of the most important skills set that a manager should possess.
