Motivation: What do you think are the most important motivational needs for the majority of people? Do you think your needs differ from those of most people?

Motivation is a factor that enhances the probability of success in an organisation. The employees of the firm who are motivated are sure to work hard and help the organisation in achieving your goals and objectives. Motivation is a psychological process that helps in stimulating the persistence of actions which are aimed towards the achievement of some goals. It is necessary for the managers to understand employees and keep them motivated in order to effectively direct them. Maslow's need hierarchy theory explains the various factors that act as motivation at various levels.
Physiological needs- These are the basic requirements for human being required for their survival. This include air, water, food, sleep etc. In an organisation perspective, it can be considered as flexible working hours, comfortable working condition and other necessary requirements for or employees like clean bathrooms, pure drinking water etc.
Safety needs – These are the factors which provides a person with a sense of security. Security can be either personal or financial in nature. Safety of the employees is to be ensured by providing safe working conditions and compensation in case of any kind of accidents. Job security is also another safety requirement for employees.
Social needs - This include the love, belongingness and acceptance experienced by an individual. Human beings are social animal, hence they does not want to feel alone and isolated. They required intimacy at work and family in order to fulfil their social needs. There should be a very harmonious and cooperative working setup and employees need to get access to other employees and their supervisors in order to maintain a cordial relationship at work.
Esteem needs - This is the requirement of an individual for getting self-esteem along with respect and admiration from others. Employees would want to be praised and recognised by the employees when they perform well in their tasks. They would also want to be offered with promotions and entitled to additional responsibilities in order to feel valued.
Self-actualization needs - This is the point when a person feels that they have reached their full potential. This is not just holding onto one position but an intrinsic feeling that they are capable of doing something that is highly personal and that my vary from person to person. Some might feel at to be their ability in decision making, autonomy, being a good parent, being spiritually enlightened etc.
The motivational needs of individuals vary from person to person. This is because of the difference in ideas, values, morals, perspectives, personalities, etc. In an organisational context some of the motivational needs of employees are as follows:
