Q.1). What you believe is the primary purpose of the speech. Compare that with what you consider to be the speaker's "message" or thesis/claim.

A) Public speaking/ speech is an art, not every human being is capable of performing that art, though through regular practice one can achieve this. The primary purpose of the speech is to entertain, to pursuade and to inform the audience. Pick any kind of speech, it will fall under any one pf these cateogory. In the speech, given by Dr. Ivan Joseph he is pursuading the audience. He is making them to believe that there is no magic button for anything in the world, if we have to achieve something than we have work harder than ever.

Q.2) As you listen deeply, decipher this speaker's main points. How does he support his main points? (We're talking content here.) What techniques are used to build credibility?

A) Following are the speeker's main points:

a. persistent: speaker said never ever to give up when you fail in your goal.he said, its rare to see that one can achieve their goal in their first attempt. We are definately going to fail at first....but that should not be the reason to quit, keep doing it again and again, every time you will learn something new from the previous mistake. Keep going, dont loose heart until you get whatyou were looking for. He supported his point with a very well-known example of the author J.K Rowling. He said 12-13 publisher denied/refused to publish her book (Harry Potter). She heard No 12-13 times before someone agreed to publish her book.We should learn this persistance from her.

b.Self-Affirmation: It starts by stopping yourself when you notice you’re having a negative inner thoughts. You cant go any higher in your life with these negative feelings you are having.

c.Get away from the people who will tear you down: By this point the speeker meant that there are people in our lives who always try to break us. Whenever we try to do something good, they will try to make us feel less worthy.

d.acknowledge the good thing in your life: here author is trying to say is whenever you feel low in life, try to focus on the good thing you have accomplished in the life, it can be good marraige, good job environment, caring friends etc..

A.3) In this very particular speech... the speaker is connecting to his audience through pursuading them, and by giving them examples to support his points.

A.4) The part of the speech where the speeker said "always acknowledge the positive things in your life" , touched me the most. Till now in my life i never had much support from anyone in any aspects of my life, if i had any... i might have achieved something bigger in life. But as the author said whenever you feel low in life, try to focus on the good thing you have accomplished in the life,... its very true and i am touched by it.
