5 Major activities of operating system, regarding process management

The five major activities of an OS regarding the operating system are as follows :-

  • Creating and Deleting
  • Suspeding and Resuming
  • Communicating
  • Synchronizing
  • Deadlock Handling

Now let us have some of the details regarding these major aspect / activities that are been performed by the Operating System:

  1. Creating and Deleting - There are many operations and processes that are been performed by the OS , some of then run permanently and some of them run inside the background . Like when computer boots up the process is started and sometimes the background processes are also running so in this case the creation and the deletion of the process is been done by the Operating System. When we launch any application the process is been started and till we exit any application. So this way the processes are been created and deleted.
  2. Suspending and resuming - Although there are many processes which are running peranently and but there are some processes which are in background but not running currently so this is the suspension of the process and similarily processes are also been resumed by an OS when needed.
  3. Communicating - There are some times during the processes when we need some resources been synchronized then there is a need of communication with the process and an operating system. So this is th activity of an operating system.
  4. Synchronization - An operating system has some resources which are needed to run simultaneously for the resource sharing . But sometime simultaneous running may get a lot of load on the computer so an operating system provides the resources by switching processes so quickly that it looks like they are running simultaneously . So this is called the synchronization and is the activity of an OS.
  5. Deadlock handling - There ar many situation while process handling like the resources are been needed for any process to execute but it is halted because that resource is been used in some other process in this situation deadlock can occur , so to avoid and handle this type of deadlock situation operating system works accordingly .

So these are the five major activities of an OS regading the process management in the operating system, hope you got something to learn.
