in what ways did the US Constitution betray the African and african american people in the United States?

(Answer) In 1776, the American constitution was drafted on progressive and fundamental ideas. This American ideology was based on life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, liberty and justice for all etc.
If that were truly the case, then every American regardless of their ethnic background would be able to enjoy these rights. The reality of it all, however, was quite different. At the time of acquiring her freedom, only one-tenth of the African American population was free from slavery.
It wasn’t until the year 1863 that the emancipation proclamation was signed and protection was granted to all African Americans. This would include their freedom from slavery. Since the rules of the constitution were conveniently tailored in order to do what was acceptable to the white man, it was a betrayal for the African American population.
