What effect would the magnification of the eyepiece have on resolution?
Magnification is defined as the ability to produce enlarged images of the object.
The objective lens can be magnified upto 4X,10X ,40X and 100X and eye piece magnification will be always 10X.The total magnification is the multiple of the objective lens and the eyepiece which ranges from 40X to 1000X.
Resolution or resolving power refers to the ability to distinguish two separate points as being separate and distinct.
Shorter the wavelength of the light used more is the resolution. Resolution is expressed as the minimum distance that can be resolved.
Magnification has no effect on resolution.Eg. If the resolution of the object is 0.3m,however the specimen image is magnified the resolution remains the same.Even at 1000X magnification ,the points can be resolved only upto 0.3m apart. In such high magnification, points that are closer together may be visible but will be superimposed and blurred. So better resolution cannotbe achieved by magnifying objects.
