The optimal solution a company can use to approach diversity and inclusion is to recruit more from these marginalized communities and use company resources to provide training to existing employees on how to handle diversity and inclusion. Intermingling and understanding of marginalized communities will help people integrate. Company should take measures to let people be together so they get as much time to work with each other as possible.
Quotas or targets as a measure don't work since it leads to resentment among the majority. Instead, it is better than leadership shows acceptance of diversity and inclusion. When leadership takes positive steps, people will follow automatically. Having training programs and cross diversified teams will help. Treating people with respect and acceptance is the only way to make this work. Acceptance from top management helps more than all the things.
The top two concerns of diversity and inclusion among companies is the slow rate of progress and sexual harassment and discrimination. Google has flagged the slow rate of process in taking steps to improve diversity and inclusion in its employees. IBM has a program in place but which has had limited success. This is because current employees perceive that they are being looked over for others. Sexual harassment and discrimination is a very real issue at top companies where gender and racial profiling happens. This is also used to get better of a rival since it is a competitive space. Addressing these need while help a company accelerate its diversity inclusion rates reducing employee attritions.
Diversity and inclusion is an inevitable process since the world is getting globalized. A globalized workforce adds value to a company. Research has shown that companies become more innovative with a diversified workfoce. This is simply because people can understand the markets and customers better when the representation of people is there in teams. Also, todays new graduates want to work in a diversified environment so as to hone and improve their peoples skills which will add to their resume.
