Power and influence in organization is the common thing that we use to see and most of the authority and senior management explore the power in the organization to create the necessary influences on their team, employees, other managers and all key stakeholders who are involved with him. Thus power is the preferred route which will create the required influences on the required personnel and they will get convince with the approach of the powerful manager and will accept and act as per hi advise and direction so that they feel they are comfortable and they will be survived easily. Thus we can see that senior managers create their lobbies with the help of power and its resulted influences on the key people, who use to follow the manager and obey him in order that they will remain protected and they will not face any issue or problem by other people in organization.
Organizational behavior is purely influenced by the power and its influences. Employee and people in the organization are highly influenced and they behave in the manner of the power they have or they had got the support from the powerful manager. Thus the organizational behavior is purely the outcome and the power exercise in the organization by the senior management and key authorities. Thus higher the power utilization by senior people, the larger will be the influences on the lower level employee and the culture will get diluted with power and its influences.
If I were in charge, the kind of power bases and influence tactics we would exercise to exert influence over our followers will be such that we will not use the power of our position, but we will use the power of knowledge and expertise and convince the followers so that the followers will get the right input and they will proceed in the right direction which will be helpful for the organization in the near future and it will drive the organization in growth place in long term. I will avoid the position power utilization and will not influence the followers with the power of the position, because it will drive them in negative approach and it will not work for long term and the organization will face severe issues because of power and its influences in long term.
We are referring to the SMART & Nissan organizations/company, as examples to show that these companies have not explored the power and its influences in the organization to create adverse impact on the working culture and the environment of the companies.
The non utilization of power and its influences created the right working environment for these companies and they are driving in the right direction so that they will achieve their long term business goal easily and comfortably. The power and its influences will create adverse environment which will not allow these companies to survive in long term.
The top two concerns of Power & Influence is that power and influence will not drive the right working culture in the organization and it will push the politic in the organization. Second concern is that it will affect the productivity severely and the power and its influence will not allow the company to achieve their target performance and productivity from their employee a the employee are influenced by manager and they will act as per manager advise only and not in interest of the organization. Key learning is that power and influences is not right for the business and it should be avoided for better future outcome for the business.
