Compare distilled water to tap water. Can you call these solutions? Are these electrolytes or nonelectrolytes? Why? What other solutions can you think that are examples of electrolyte and nonelectrolyte solutions? please use more than 150 words.
We know that solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more components. They are completely miscible into each other and considered to be single phase.
Generally one of them will have low concentraiton and will be called as solute and the other with high concentraiton is known as solvent.
In case of Tap water , it contains many chemicals like chlorine, flourine and alkaline metals salts (bicrabonates etc) although in microscopic amounts. So we can call it as solution of these chemicals in water.
They may be electrolyte due to presence of charged species like carbonates , bicarbonates etc. Electrolytes have capacity to conduct electricity due to charge present on them. They may be strong or weak electrolyte depending upon the concentration and dissociation.
We can easilt idenftify many solutions as non-electrolytes. They do not dissociate into charged species : Example: sugar dissolved in water or glucose dissolved in water .
Electrolyte solution: NaCl dissolved in water , KCl dissolved in water, NaOH dissolved in water.
