Describe the treatment goals for mental disorders. What may a community program do to support these goals? Cite source, no plagiarism
Treatment refers to the Medical care for an illness.
Mental disorders are characterised the abnormalities in thinking, volitions, faculties or impaired cognitive functions such as attention, concentration, memory, intelligence or consciousness etc. Treatment goals for Mental disorders focus on the cure or alleviation of these symptoms. The important treatment goals of Mental disorders are:
1. quitting the abuse of substances or drugs such as alcohol or tobacco.
2. reduce the suicidal ideations or thoughts
3. Enhance or facilitate the behavioural change
4. Enhance the client's potential for decision making
5. Improve patient's ability for establishing and maintaining the interpersonal relationships
6. Help the client to improve their copying mechanisms with life stresses.
7. Help the patient to improve his communication skills
8. Assist the patient in learning how to manage anger and how to express it in a healthy way.
9. To relieve depression symptoms
There are various goals, a heathcare provider can set according to the mental disorders the patient suffering with. These goal should be realistic and measurable.
Community programme and goals of Mental disorders
Government organizes various Community programmes in a view to improve the physical health as well as the mental health of the people in the community. Community programmes may help the treatment goals of Mental disorders in various ways such as:
* Community Mental health Programmes ensure the availability of Mental health services to the rural and urban people. There by helping in early diagnosis and treatment of Mental disorders.
* School based community interventions helps adolescents to get rid of substance abuse and suicidal ideations.
* Community exercise and physical fitness programmes enhance the exercise routine and physical activity in general population. Physical activity and exercise are useful way to reduce stress.
* Mental health action plan provides training for the Health care staff to help the individuals with mental illness and substance abuse, so that they can work in communities and help the patients to achieve the mental health goals.
* Community programmes encourage mass Health education programmes about Mental health promotion strategies such as positive attitude towards self, share with some one , have a good meal, adequate rest and sleep etc.
* Community programmes encourages the people to adopt relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation and diversional techniques .
