Describe the three main goals city planners must consider to support a sustainable city. Do you think conflicting interests can be reconciled, and if so, how? How do these problems compare with problems occurring in other urban areas, both nationally and internationally? How does the impact of urban development extend to rural communities? Are their benefits to the expansion? Why or why not?
Usually the city planners face the issue of lack of space, bad transport which results in traffic jams, deforestration etc. The the three main goals which they should consider are having a good road system to avoid congestion esp during rains. These road system should include bridges, flyovers so that it is easier for the people. There should also be good transport system of buses, railways or metros. For eg: if there are connecting buses or railways people would be using more of the public transport, in London the transport system of busses and underground railways is very good, hence it is easier to get to the corner of the cities. There should be more planation, cutting down trees which eventually is responsible for less rains thereby leading to scarcity of water. Hence a zone of trees or parks should be kept which should not be touched. The industrial area should be somewhere out of city, so that there is no traffic jams at the peak hours within the city.
There can be conficting interests of bridges, or flyovers or even for deforestration, but their meaning or a model should be made to explain people the benefits of the same. Urban areas were rural areas few years ago and hence there is no much problems of greenery or density per sq. foot. The roads are not as developed as the city roads are. Even the transport system is not that good, as people are mostly walk or use their personal mode of transport.
Above all city changes, the lifestyle changes are seen by the rural people. Rural people usually see that there is more industrialization in urban areas, the areas of forests are being replaced by big companies or industries. People are building homes somewhere away from city area, some weekend.
Expansion is the sign of development but there is loss of personal peace, or many problems arising due to such factors. Hence there are advantages as well disadvantages. Expansion leads to many factors related to the beautification of city, such as roads, express ways, there can be also many sight seeing or tourist centres which rural people may develop thereby leading to the generation of money. But the disadavanatges such making being more money minded, thefts, loss of simple lifestyle would emerge
