Imagine that you are currently on the job market, applying for job positions at various companies, and one of these companies requires you to take a personality test prior to making a hiring decision. From a job applicant’s point of view, how would you feel about this requirement? Do you believe other job applicants would have a similar reaction?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer: As an applicant I don’t feel that there is anything wrong in a company taking such a test. Personality tests have proven to be effective in establishing the fit between the job and the applicant. The different types of personality tests help in understanding the personality related characteristics of the individuals. There are certain types of jobs that require people of a certain personality and attitude. Hence if a fit is established before recruitment, chances of success of individuals increase. These tests not only help the companies to select right people but it also enables the applicants to understand themselves better. Personality tests when used along with the other selection processes like interviews can help in better outcomes. Therefore I feel that it is perfectly alright for the companies to take such tests. The other applicants may not have a similar reaction as there are many people who question the effectiveness of these tests as they lack scientific backing. But there may be many who may agree with my opinion.
